Israel Urges Berlin Action on Hostages

The Israeli Embassy in Berlin has formally urged the German government to adopt a more coordinated and prioritized approach towards securing the release of German-Israeli citizens currently held hostage by Hamas.

A spokesperson for the embassy, speaking to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers, emphasized that prioritizing hostage release not only within regional diplomatic efforts but also across all relevant policy areas would be significantly beneficial. The embassy suggested the new German government could take a leading role in this effort, drawing on experiences observed in other nations.

While acknowledging the German government’s existing involvement in hostage release efforts, including regular meetings with the families of those abducted, the embassy is advocating for a wider public discourse within Germany. The spokesperson underscored the importance of centering the plight of the hostages in public conversation, stating that the families and friends of the captives have a right to be heard.

The embassy’s statement highlighted that the hostages, the victims of the Hamas terror and their families are bearing a heavy price and their needs and concerns must not be overlooked.
