Israel and Hamas Edge Closer to a Lasting Peace

As negotiations over a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip appear to have reached a fundamental agreement between Israel and Hamas, a draft of the ceasefire and the release of hostages has reportedly been approved by both sides, according to the US-based CBS.

If everything goes smoothly, Israel and Hamas are expected to finalize the agreement this week, with sources from the US, Israel, and the Arab world cited by the CBS.

The implementation of the agreement could reportedly begin this weekend, with public statements from both sides on the success of the talks potentially occurring as early as Tuesday evening.

Earlier on Monday, reports had emerged that, in the initial phase, 33 hostages would be released by the Hamas, in exchange for the IDF troops withdrawing from the Gaza Strip in a gradual process.

The negotiations between Hamas and Israel over a ceasefire took place most recently, with the US playing a mediating role in Qatar.
