According to the German government’s spokesperson, Stefan Kornelius, the leaders reiterated their willingness to work together in addressing global challenges in a partnership-based approach.
The Chancellor and President Xi reaffirmed the importance of economic relations between Germany and China, with Merz emphasizing the significance of fair competition and reciprocity. The two leaders also discussed international and regional issues, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Merz briefed Xi on the joint efforts of Europe and the United States to achieve a swift ceasefire and urged continued support for these efforts. The Chancellor and President Xi agreed to maintain their direct exchange, aiming to further develop German-Chinese cooperation, as stated by Kornelius.
