Iran's Uranium Enrichment Not Up for Discussion in Nuclear Talks with USA

In light of the concerns raised by the United States regarding Iran’s nuclear program, Tehran is ready to build trust in its relationship with Washington. This is according to Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who announced this in a conversation with reporters. At the same time, he emphasizes that his country rejects any pressure and interference in the matter. Negotiations with the United States could continue if they are conducted on an equal footing and in a respectful atmosphere, the Foreign Minister asserts.

Iran’s top diplomat also makes it clear that the issue of uranium enrichment is fundamentally non-negotiable. In a statement to the SNN television channel, Araghchi says: “Enrichment is a reality, an accepted fact and we are ready to respond to possible concerns by building trust, but the issue of enrichment is not negotiable.”

If the US representatives present constructive proposals, Tehran is willing to engage in negotiations on a potential agreement, the Foreign Minister adds. “If not, we will continue to have problems with contradictory and opposing positions.”

On April 12, indirect talks between Steve Witkoff, the US Special Envoy for the Middle East and Araghchi took place in Oman. According to Witkoff, the negotiations were positive and constructive.

Araghchi, for his part, stated that the atmosphere of the meeting was constructive and calm. He also thanked Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi for his efforts in facilitating the exchange of opinions between the Iranian and US delegations.

The second round of talks is scheduled to take place on April 19.
