Iran Victims Demand Action Against Tehran

A poignant appeal for international action regarding the ongoing situation in Iran has been issued by families of victims and survivors of state repression. The open letter, reported by German newspaper “Welt” was released to mark the third anniversary of the death of Jina Mahsa Amini, whose passing in police custody on September 16, 2022, ignited widespread protests.

The letter, signed by approximately 100 individuals directly impacted by the Iranian government’s actions, urges the international community to implement specific and targeted measures. Central to their demands is the designation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a foreign terrorist organization. Signatories also call for a severing of diplomatic and economic ties with the Iranian regime, alongside comprehensive sanctions aimed at disrupting the IRGC’s financial, military and cyber networks.

Beyond punitive measures, the letter emphasizes the need for substantial support for the Iranian populace as they strive for a transition to a democratic government. It acknowledges a pattern of severe crackdowns on regime critics by Iranian security forces over recent years. The death of Jina Mahsa Amini has become a powerful symbol of a nationwide protest movement that was met with violent suppression. The signatories express hope for a future marked by greater freedom and self-determination for the Iranian people.
