According to initial data from the federal states, the nationwide annual inflation rate, which stood at 2.3 percent in January, is likely to have changed only slightly in February, with a slight downward trend. The data, released on Friday morning, shows that in North Rhine-Westphalia, the inflation rate decreased from 2.0 to 1.9 percent, in Bavaria from 2.5 to 2.4 percent and in Hesse from 2.5 to 2.3 percent. In Lower Saxony, the inflation rate remained unchanged at 2.5 percent, while in Baden-Württemberg it increased from 2.3 to 2.5 percent. A nationwide inflation rate of 2.1 to 2.3 percent is thus expected. The Federal Statistical Office will publish its preliminary estimate of the nationwide inflation rate later in the day, usually around 2 pm, with the final numbers to be released in the middle of the month, although changes are rare.
