Inflation Rate Stays Steady Across Germany in April.

The nationwide annual inflation rate, which stood at 2.2 percent in March, is expected to have remained relatively unchanged in April. Initial figures from the federal states, which were released on Wednesday, indicate this trend.

In the largest federal state, North Rhine-Westphalia, the rate was at 1.8 percent, down from 1.9 percent the previous month. In Bavaria, it decreased from 2.3 to 2.1 percent and in Hesse, it went from 2.4 to 2.3 percent. In Lower Saxony, the inflation rate remained at 2.2 percent (previous month: 2.4 percent) and in Baden-Württemberg, it increased from 2.2 to 2.4 percent. In Saxony, the rate decreased from 2.5 to 2.4 percent and in Brandenburg, it went from 2.3 to 2.2 percent. In Sachsen-Anhalt (2.9 percent) and Berlin (1.9 percent), the annual rate remained unchanged. Thus, a nationwide inflation rate of 2.0 to 2.2 percent is expected.

The Federal Statistical Office will publish its preliminary estimate for the nationwide inflation rate during the day, usually around 2 pm. The final figures are released around the middle of the month, but these are usually only slightly different from the preliminary estimates.
