Inflation rate drops to 2.1 percent, but core inflation remains high in April 2025

The annual increase in consumer prices in Germany has once again slightly slowed down in April 2025, according to the Federal Statistical Office. The inflation rate is expected to be 2.1 percent, a decrease from the 2.3 percent recorded in January and February and the 2.2 percent in March. The consumer prices are expected to increase by 0.4 percent compared to the previous month.

Meanwhile, the core inflation rate, which excludes food and energy prices and is often referred to as the core inflation rate, is projected to rise from 2.6 percent in March to 2.9 percent in April. This remains significantly higher than the overall index.

Energy prices in April were lower compared to the same month last year (-5.4 percent), while food prices increased by 2.8 percent compared to the same period last year. The prices for services rose by 3.9 percent.
