Inflation Jumps Sharply

Early data released Tuesday from German states indicate a marked increase in the country’s inflation rate. While the official nationwide figure, to be released later this afternoon by the Federal Statistical Office, is still pending, preliminary reports reveal a widespread upward trend across numerous regions.

North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) has reported an inflation rate for September rising to 2.3 percent, up from 2.0 percent in the previous month. Bavaria experienced a similar increase, with prices climbing from 2.1 to 2.4 percent. Lower Saxony’s inflation rate also rose, moving from 2.2 to 2.3 percent. Saxony remains an exception, maintaining a consistent inflation rate of 2.2 percent for September among the states that have already reported.

Based on the initial state-level data, economists anticipate the nationwide inflation rate to have increased from 2.2 percent in August to approximately 2.4 percent for September. The Federal Statistical Office is expected to publish its official estimation at 2:00 PM local time.
