Ines Claus Stays in Hesse, Abandons Berlin Cabinet

Ines Claus, the CDU’s faction leader in Hesse, will not join a cabinet in Berlin under Friedrich Merz’s leadership. Claus was considered one of the few possible female ministers in Merz’s cabinet. “I will, however, remain in Hesse” she said to RTL/ntv on Wednesday.

Ines Claus was re-elected as faction leader in Hesse last year. “We are, like all states, facing great challenges and I would like to take on those with Boris Rhein in our team” the CDU politician said.

“It is a great compliment that so many people would entrust me with a federal ministry” Claus stated. As the only female faction leader and a member of the CDU’s federal executive, she will continue to engage on a federal level and for the future federal chancellor Friedrich Merz and this will also come from Hesse.
