German labor union leader criticizes CEO contract extension

In a recent interview with the Rheinische Post, Jürgen Kerner, the vice-chief of the IG Metall labor union, expressed his opposition to the contract extension for the CEO of the company, Miguel Ángel López Borrego. Kerner, who is also the second vice-chair of the union and a member of the supervisory board, stated that he personally did not vote in favor of the contract extension.

Kerner criticized the decision-making process, saying that it was incorrect to discuss a contract extension before the CEO had delivered on his promises. The labor union leader emphasized that the CEO must first demonstrate his ability to meet the expectations of the company and its employees before being considered for a contract extension.

In a time when employees are being asked to make significant sacrifices, Kerner believes that the CEO should be held to a higher standard before being rewarded with a contract extension. The IG Metall union has significant reservations and concerns about the decision and Kerner’s comments reflect the union’s stance on the matter.
