Volkswagen is reportedly considering building its planned and affordable electric car, the ID.1, in the Portuguese town of Palmela, according to a media report. Business Insider magazine reported on Thursday that it had received this news from “well-informed VW circles”.
The Portuguese factory has been used by the VW group in recent years primarily as a production site for the compact VW models T-Roc and T-Roc R. The start of production is planned for the year 2027.
The ID.1 is expected to hit the market at a price of around 20,000 euros and has been hotly discussed in the media, often referred to as a “entry-level storm”. At a works meeting in Wolfsburg, the company published a computer-generated image, with technical details to be revealed on March 5.
