Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán praised the AfD’s program during a visit from AfD leader Alice Weidel in Budapest.
According to Orbán, “Everything the AfD represents today would be very good for Hungary” and he confirmed this based on their conversations. This opinion also applies to the topic of migration, he said. However, during their discussion of the EU, it became clear that his position is “more radical” Orbán stated. He told Weidel, in no uncertain terms, that in his view the European Union is “in a very bad state.” If several pressing issues are not addressed, he does not know how the EU can be saved, he added.
Weidel responded that, while she had expressed herself “a bit more reserved” she believes that it is necessary to work together to reform the European Union. She argued that this can only be achieved from the inside by reducing the European Union’s competencies and dismantling the entire bureaucratic apparatus.
