After twelve years with RB Leipzig, forward Yussuf Poulsen has officially joined Hamburger SV, the Bundesliga’s newest promoted team. The signing was confirmed on Sunday evening, marking a significant move for both clubs and signaling a new chapter for the experienced player.
“There’s not much to say about Yussuf Poulsen” stated Hamburger SV board member Stefan Kuntz. “He’s a recognizable face in the Bundesliga. His experience and maturity encompass all facets of professional football. He witnessed RB Leipzig’s journey from the third division to the Champions League, acutely understanding the challenges of maintaining a promoted team’s status and establishing long-term stability in the Bundesliga. We aim to leverage his invaluable insights and leadership qualities.
Poulsen expressed his enthusiasm for joining Hamburger SV, referencing a long-standing connection to the club. “Hamburger SV is a fantastic club. The first international match I ever watched was a UEFA Cup game between FC Copenhagen and Hamburg. I always said, I hope Hamburger SV returns to the Bundesliga soon. I’ve experienced promotion myself and know the incredible wave of euphoria it can bring.
Poulsen’s professional career began with Danish side Lyngby BK in 2011/12. He transitioned to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2013, playing a crucial role in their subsequent rise through the German football pyramid. He helped secure promotion to the 2.
