How the US President's Impulsiveness Fuels the Middle East Crisis

Trump’s lack of constraint emboldens Israel’s actions.

According to Herfried Münkler, a politics expert, US President Donald Trump’s hands-off approach towards Israel has contributed to the current situation in the Middle East. In an interview with the Rheinische Post, Münkler pointed out that President Trump has never hindered Israel’s actions, which has led to a heightened willingness among Israeli leaders to take a more aggressive stance against Iran.

In contrast, the Biden administration has consistently attempted to prevent an escalation in the region, fearing a loss of control over the situation, Münkler explained. However, Trump’s lack of consideration for such concerns has allowed the situation to unfold as it has. Münkler characterized Trump’s recent tweets as mere expressions of his current mood, rather than a deliberate attempt to shape the course of events.

Ultimately, Münkler believes that the rhythm of the situation is dictated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanjahu and not by the US President’s tweets.
