Hospitality Sales Rise in July

The German hospitality sector demonstrated a modest rebound in July 2025, according to provisional data released Thursday by the Statistical Federal Office (Destatis). Calendar- and seasonally-adjusted real turnover increased by 0.8 percent and nominal turnover by 1.0 percent compared to June 2025.

However, when compared to July 2024, the sector experienced a decline. Real turnover decreased by 3.7 percent and nominal turnover by 0.6 percent year-on-year.

A revision of preliminary figures revealed that June 2025 saw a decrease in turnover compared to May. Real turnover fell by 0.9 percent (previously reported as -2.5 percent), while nominal turnover decreased by 2.4 percent (previously reported as -3.9 percent).

Within the hospitality sector, hotels and other accommodation services witnessed a real turnover increase of 1.2 percent and a nominal increase of 1.5 percent compared to June 2025. Year-on-year, however, these businesses saw a real turnover decrease of 3.9 percent and a nominal decrease of 1.7 percent relative to July 2024.

Restaurants and catering establishments reported a real turnover increase of 1.0 percent and a nominal increase of 1.1 percent when compared to June 2025. However, the comparative period of July 2024 saw a real turnover decrease of 4.1 percent and a nominal decrease of 0.2 percent.
