Werder Bremen Appoints New Head Coach in Horst Steffen

Werder Bremen, a professional football club, has announced the appointment of Horst Steffen as its new head coach. The 56-year-old football coach, who previously managed SV Elversberg, has signed a contract with the Bundesliga team. The terms of his departure from Elversberg and the compensation he received remain undisclosed.

Steffen’s appointment follows the departure of Ole Werner, who led the team to an eighth-place finish in the previous Bundesliga season. The new head coach has a strong track record, having overseen Elversberg’s promotion from the Regionalliga to the 2. Bundesliga over the past seven years.

“We were convinced by Horst’s in-depth and human approach in our discussions” said Clemens Fritz, the club’s sporting director, in a statement. “He stands for offensive, attractive football and a very good and clear team leadership. We are confident that he will be a good fit for us in the new season.”

Steffen expressed his excitement about the new challenge, stating that the club’s approach and its vision for the future impressed him. He believes that the team has the potential to grow and develop and he is looking forward to working with the players to achieve this goal.

The new head coach has a wealth of experience, having played 282 games in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga for Bayer Uerdingen, Borussia Mönchengladbach and MSV Duisburg and having managed several teams in the lower divisions. This is his first appointment in the Bundesliga and he is eager to start his new role at Werder Bremen.
