Logistics giant DHL is preparing to recruit thousands of delivery personnel to manage the surge in demand during the upcoming holiday season. According to a statement from CEO Tobias Meyer to news magazine “Focus” the company anticipates needing a workforce comparable to last year’s recruitment of approximately 10,000 temporary employees. While final planning is still underway, Meyer expressed confidence in securing sufficient personnel.
He noted a significant increase in applications received this year, potentially attributable to a softening labor market. This trend further reinforces the ongoing shift towards online retail, a phenomenon DHL observes across diverse sectors, including pet food, prescription medications and other goods traditionally purchased in brick-and-mortar stores.
Meyer clarified that this increased parcel volume doesn’t necessarily equate to a permanent expansion of the delivery workforce. Rather, he anticipates a reallocation of resources, with a shift of personnel from declining letter services towards the growing parcel delivery segment.
