The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) parliamentary group anticipates support within its ranks for Sigrid Emmenegger’s nomination to the Federal Constitutional Court, according to Alexander Hoffmann, leader of the CSU parliamentary group. Following the SPD’s recent proposal, Hoffmann expressed a positive impression of Emmenegger after having the opportunity to engage with her.
A key factor influencing the anticipated support, Hoffmann noted, is Emmenegger’s measured approach to public appearances, a concern raised by many within the CDU and CSU in the past. He further stated that her demeanor conveys no intent to challenge core positions of the CDU or to fundamentally alter established jurisprudence of the Federal Constitutional Court.
Describing an expected process of internal discussion within the parliamentary group, Hoffmann indicated strong confidence in securing approval. He also anticipates maintaining the nominations of Günter Spinner and Ann-Katrin Kaufhold, citing their prior election by the Bundestag’s Committee on the Election of Judges. Their established acceptance and previous endorsement, even amidst previous debates, have led Hoffmann to believe their candidacies should remain unchanged. He specifically mentioned observing a willingness from the Green party to support these individuals during the summer discussions.
