Hertha Wins Thrilling Cup Tie on Penalties

Hertha BSC advanced in the first round of the DFB-Pokal following a penalty shootout victory over Preußen Münster. The match, which concluded scoreless after 120 minutes, saw the Berlin-based club demonstrate composure from the spot. Sebastian Gronning, Maurice Krattenmacher, Mickael Cuisance, Leon Jensen and Fabian Reese all successfully converted their penalties for Hertha. Münster’s Babis Makridis struck the crossbar with his attempt, ultimately proving decisive.

The match began with a strong showing from Münster, who created numerous opportunities in the first half but were repeatedly denied by Hertha goalkeeper Ernst. Marvin Schulz and Etienne Amenyido posed significant threats, though neither could find the back of the net. Hertha appeared vulnerable defensively and struggled to mount sustained attacks.

The second half and extra time proved evenly contested, with neither side able to break the deadlock. The tension culminated in the penalty shootout, where Hertha ultimately prevailed. Lars Lokotsch and Simon Scherder successfully converted for Münster, but Makridis’ missed penalty sealed the fate of the home side.

Hertha BSC now progress to the next round, remaining in contention for a potential final appearance at their home stadium, the Olympiastadion. Meanwhile, Preußen Münster will now focus their attention on their league campaign.
