Hertha BSC, a second-division football club, has appointed Stefan Leitl as its new head coach. The club announced the news on Monday evening. The 47-year-old was previously active at league competitor Hannover 96 and has signed a contract until 2027. With Leitl, former Hertha captain Andre Mijatović will return to Berlin as his assistant coach.
“We are happy to have won a very experienced coach in Stefan Leitl, who knows the league well and has proven on his previous stations that he can shape and develop teams and players” explained Hertha’s sports director, Benjamin Weber, the personnel decision.
Leitl himself said about his new task: “Hertha BSC is a big club with enormous potential and a passionate fan base. The challenge of stabilizing, developing and making this team successful is extremely appealing to me. I look forward to working with the players, the team around the club and the fans, who make this club unique.”
Hertha BSC had recently parted ways with head coach Christian Fiel. The traditional club is currently far from the promotion ranks, ranking 14th in the table.
