Healthcare Apprentices Earn Top Pay

Apprentice earnings in Germany vary significantly depending on the chosen profession, with those in health and care roles leading the way, according to data released Tuesday by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Trainees in these fields averaged a gross monthly income of €1,310 in 2024.

Apprenticeships in maritime professions, such as shipbuilding, also offered comparatively high remuneration, averaging €1,236 gross per month. Those in skilled trades earned an average of €1,008 gross monthly, while apprentices in artistic fields – including music, photography and graphic design – received the lowest average income, at €914 gross per month.

Earnings are also closely linked to the size of the training company. Businesses with fewer than ten employees paid their apprentices an average gross monthly salary of €929 in 2024. This rose to €1,083 in companies with 50 to 99 employees and a significantly higher €1,494 in companies employing 1,000 or more individuals.

Across all years of training, apprentices in Germany earned an average of €1,238 gross per month in April 2024. Notably, female apprentices slightly out-earned their male counterparts, with an average gross monthly income of €1,302 compared to €1,187 for males, according to the Federal Statistical Office.
