The 24th matchday of the 2. Bundesliga came to a close with the Hamburger SV succumbing to a 0-2 defeat at the hands of SC Paderborn on Sunday.
Both teams engaged in an intense match from the start, with the home side quickly establishing a foothold in the game. The lead, courtesy of Filip Bilbija in the 15th minute, was thus not unwarranted. The HSV, however, failed to mount a response before the interval. Following the restart, the Hamburg side persisted in their efforts, while Paderborn also had their share of good moments and overall played with courage. This was rewarded in the 84th minute, when substitute Adriano Grimaldi sealed the deal.
The HSV, despite the defeat, remains the league leader, tied on points with 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Paderborn, on the other hand, moves up to the fourth spot, with only one point fewer on their record. The East Westphalians will face Regensburg next Sunday, while Hamburg is already set to face Düsseldorf on Saturday.
The results of the parallel matches on Sunday’s afternoon were: 1. FC Magdeburg – SV Darmstadt 98, 4-1 and SV 07 Elversberg – Hertha BSC, 4-0.
