The Hamburg Greens have approved the coalition agreement for continuing their cooperation with the SPD. The third consecutive red-green government period received a clear majority at the party congress in Altona on Monday evening. The SPD had already approved the agreement without any opposition over the weekend.
During negotiations, the parties agreed on several central points, including the promotion of public transportation and measures to reduce CO2 emissions. The expansion of bike paths and the creation of more green spaces in the city were also agreed upon. The Greens see the agreement as an important step towards sustainable urban development.
The agreement consists of 148 pages and also includes personnel changes. Katharina Fegebank is set to move from the science department to the environment department as the second mayor, while Maryam Blumenthal will take over her position. Anna Gallina, the justice senator and Anjes Tjarks, the transport senator, will retain their positions.
No personnel changes are planned for the SPD’s Senate positions, but there will be slight adjustments to the portfolio allocations. Finanzsenator Andreas Dressel will additionally take over the area of districts. With the approval of the Green party base, Peter Tschentscher can be re-elected as mayor on May 7th.
