German Green Party’s Chancellor candidate Robert Habeck considers a win for his party in the upcoming federal election to be unlikely. “My family and I are clear on this: if this unprecedented fall were to occur, it would change our lives in a completely different way again” the Federal Minister of Economics told the “Mannheimer Morgen”.
Six weeks before the federal election on February 23, Habeck commented on the Greens’ election chances, stating, “This is an election campaign that will be decided by a momentum.” He is aware of being the underdog in the competition with Union candidate Friedrich Merz and SPD Chancellor Olaf Scholz, but believes there is a chance and is making the most of it.
In this context, Habeck also appealed to the learning capacity of politics. The importance of people seeing that parties, such as the SPD, Greens, and FDP, have drawn conclusions from their time in government, was highlighted by him. “I take that gladly” Habeck said. The resonance at the Greens’ election campaign events is currently very high, with the party often having to turn away thousands of people.
