In a recent statement, Green party’s chancellor candidate Robert Habeck criticized the decision of CSU chief Markus Söder to rule out a black-green coalition as “dumb or dangerous”. According to Habeck, it is the DNA of the republic that democratic parties of all colors should be able to engage in conversations and possibly form coalitions. He stated that this is the essence of the German republic, where governments are formed from the democratic center. “In that sense, what Söder is doing, namely excluding others, is either dumb or dangerous. It’s dangerous because it can ultimately lead to a lack of ability to act, as seen in Austria” the Green politician said.
Habeck also dismissed Söder’s jabs at his economic competence, saying they had nothing to do with him as the Green party’s chancellor candidate. “Mr. Söder is actually not even trying to take a shot at me, but rather torpedoing the election campaign of Friedrich Merz. Everyone knows that” the Minister of Economics added.
