Habeck Return Unpopular With Majority of Germans

A recent survey indicates a divided public opinion regarding a potential return to public office for Robert Habeck The Forsa poll, commissioned by “Stern” magazine, reveals that 35 percent of Germans would view a political comeback by the former Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action favorably

However, a significant majority – 55 percent – expressed disapproval of Habeck resuming a governmental role Ten percent of respondents remained undecided The 56-year-old Green Party politician relinquished his seat in the Bundestag last week, while leaving the door open to future political endeavors

The data underscores the polarizing nature of the Vice Chancellor within the current coalition government A strong base of support exists within his own party, with 90 percent of Green Party supporters welcoming a potential return to politics in the coming years Conversely, only 3 percent of voters who support the Alternative for Germany (AfD) expressed similar sentiment Support for Habeck’s return also prevails among supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), at 45 percent and The Left party, with 53 percent approval Among voters aligned with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU), 61 percent are opposed to his return, although 28 percent do support it

Notably, there is a discernible gender gap in the responses: 42 percent of women view a comeback favorably, compared to only 28 percent of men

The findings are based on a telephone survey conducted by Forsa for “Stern” and RTL Deutschland on August 28th and 29th, with a sample size of 1,007 respondents
