A prominent German parliamentarian has urged the Minister for Research, Technology and Space to accelerate the implementation of key initiatives. Ayse Asar, research policy spokesperson for the Green Party in the Bundestag, voiced concerns over a perceived lack of progress in defining a clear strategy for future technologies.
Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Asar stated that a comprehensive plan remains elusive and that responsibilities between the Ministry for Research and the Ministry for Economic Affairs are still not fully delineated, with no legislative proposals currently forthcoming. Her comments follow a parliamentary inquiry by the Green Party assessing the first 100 days of Minister Dorothee Bär’s tenure, which began in May.
The inquiry revealed that the allocation of responsibilities between the two ministries is “not yet fully completed”. In response to questions regarding specific legislative plans, the Ministry indicated that the governing coalition agreement prioritizes several strategic processes for the Ministry, but anticipates a limited number of legislative initiatives during this term.
Asar contends that a period of grace has passed and expects swift action from Minister Bär, specifically calling for measures to ease the burden on students. The remarks signal increasing pressure on the Minister to demonstrate tangible progress in key policy areas.
