Following recent Russian aerial attacks on Ukraine, members of the Green party have called on Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) to collaborate with European partners in escalating pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Green party co-leader Franziska Brantner stated that overnight, Russia launched hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles targeting Ukraine. She described a recurring pattern, observing that these attacks frequently follow international peace initiatives, such as the recent discussions held in Alaska and Washington.
Brantner acknowledged Merz’s efforts to demonstrate solidarity, referencing his recent trip to Moldova alongside President Macron and Prime Minister Tusk and argued that these displays of support must be accompanied by concrete actions.
“This concerns our peace in Europe – and we cannot place our hopes on the whims of Donald Trump” Brantner stated. She urged the Chancellor to prioritize working with European allies to intensify pressure on Russia and bolster Ukraine’s position.
