The German Green Party has voiced concerns regarding the draft legislation approved by the Federal Cabinet aiming to accelerate planning and procurement processes within the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces).
Agnieszka Brugger, parliamentary group deputy leader for the Greens, emphasized that a comprehensive approach to address issues within the procurement system requires more than superficial adjustments. She stated that true acceleration necessitates action on two critical areas: increasing production capacity and resolving problems within supply chains.
Brugger suggested that expanding European cooperation on procurement projects, fostering a more pragmatic approach, could significantly increase order volumes and improve interoperability. She criticized the current pace of progress, noting a disparity between discussions and tangible action.
Furthermore, Brugger expressed concern over the coalition government’s reported curtailment of parliamentary oversight mechanisms. She cautioned that the substantial financial resources allocated require stringent monitoring to ensure they swiftly and effectively enhance the Bundeswehr’s capabilities and avoid further scandals or investigations. According to Brugger, the Green Party will be meticulously observing the deployment of these funds to guarantee they are directed towards the Armed Forces’ genuine needs.
