Greens Demand End To Polish Border Checks

Two months after Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) instituted stricter border controls, including the rejection of asylum seekers, the Green Party is calling for an end to the measures. Konstantin von Notz, deputy parliamentary group leader, told “Handelsblatt” that Dobrindt should “finally distance himself from the measures that have proven entirely ineffective” describing the policy as “short-term symbolic politics” that is “producing nothing but chaos.

Von Notz attributed the current situation to uncoordinated national unilateral actions, referencing the implementation of new border controls in Poland. He stated that this resulted in a “domino effect” a consequence repeatedly cautioned against. The federal government and the Interior Minister, he added, consistently disregarded such warnings, including those from the business community.

Von Notz emphasized that Germany relies heavily on cooperation and open borders within the European Union. He highlighted Germany’s substantial economic benefits derived from freedom of movement within the EU.
