German Greens Demand Emergency Aid for US Students Amid Elite University Crisis

In response to the current developments at elite universities in the United States, the German Greens are calling for an emergency aid program for students from the US. This is evident from an application for the Bundestag session on Thursday, reported by the “Rheinische Post” in its Wednesday edition.

“We are demanding a comprehensive emergency aid program for students who, due to the current situation, are no longer able to continue their studies” said Ayse Asar, the Greens’ research policy spokesperson, to the “Rheinische Post”.

Asar emphasized the need to “build Germany and Europe as bastions of scientific freedom.” The Greens also demand in the document that scientists be offered “genuine perspectives at all levels.” Furthermore, the party is advocating for an immediate program to secure endangered data sets, particularly in climate, sustainability and health research.

“The loss of these unique and often irretrievable data would have devastating effects on our lives” Asar warned.
