Greens Chief Demands Sweeping Security Overhaul After Foiled Attack

After the alleged attack in Munich, Green party leader Felix Banaszak is calling for a comprehensive security offensive and warns against instrumentalizing the act.

“The clarification of the act has now the highest priority, because people are worried about the safety in our country” Banaszak told the “Rheinische Post” (Saturday edition). “We have experienced a series of terrible attacks and it once again shows how necessary a comprehensive security offensive is, one that closes the known gaps” the Green politician said.

“Whoever instrumentalizes this act now does not create more, but less security and endangers the cohesion in our country. We want to ensure safety for all people in this country” Banaszak said. At the same time, he expressed himself as “shaken” by the act and thanked the police, rescue teams and people who had provided first aid. “We stand in solidarity with the Verdi trade union, whose demonstration was attacked yesterday” Banaszak added.
