Greens Accuse Government of Gaza Hesitation

The German Green Party has voiced concerns regarding the federal government’s approach to the ongoing situation involving Israel, citing what they perceive as excessive deliberation. Luise Amtsberg, the Green Party’s spokesperson for foreign policy, stated in remarks published by the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland that further consultations with the chancellery are unacceptable given the urgent needs of the population in Gaza.

Amtsberg suggested two immediate actions to increase pressure: a cessation of weapon deliveries potentially usable in Gaza and additional sanctions against settlers and ministers who support settlement construction.

She sharply criticized the government’s assessment of marginal improvements in humanitarian aid reaching Gaza, deeming the statement “cynical”. Amtsberg emphasized that hundreds of thousands of people remain inaccessible due to the continued blockade of supplies and ongoing hostilities.

The Green Party politician argued against the government’s reliance on limited air drops of aid. She insisted the government must advocate for the complete opening of humanitarian access routes and transfer responsibility for aid distribution to the United Nations, explicitly linking these demands to concrete actions.
