Greens Accuse AfD of Provocation and Victimhood

The Green Party faction leader in the German Bundestag, Katharina Dröge, has accused the Alternative for Germany (AfD) of employing increasingly overt provocative tactics within parliament, branding their behavior as a deliberate performance of victimhood.

Speaking to Bild am Samstag, Dröge asserted that AfD parliamentarians are intentionally disrupting Bundestag debates and actively seeking to provoke points of order, subsequently leveraging these incidents to portray themselves as unfairly targeted through displays of self-pity. She characterized this behavior as a calculated “script” designed to generate publicity and cultivate a narrative of persecution.

Dröge emphasized that the AfD’s strategy is plainly discernible, warning against succumbing to its manipulative nature. “This is something no one should fall for” she stated directly. Regarding the recent increase in points of order directed at AfD members, Dröge clarified that these decisions are solely within the purview of the Bundestag’s presiding officers, signaling a firm stance against what she views as orchestrated disruption. The critique underscores a growing political tension within Germany, with Dröge’s comments reflecting a heightened scrutiny of the AfD’s tactics and prompting questions about the efficacy of parliamentary procedures in addressing deliberately provocative conduct.
