A senior official of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Matthias Miersch, has sharply criticized the Green Party’s candidate for chancellor, Robert Habeck. According to Miersch, who spoke to the “Stern” magazine, Habeck would do better to focus on the desk and not the kitchen table. Germany is in the midst of a recession, and while the economy minister finds the time to write books, he leaves important legislative initiatives, such as the energy strategy, to languish, Miersch said. “The priorities are not in line here.”
Miersch views the election duel between opposition leader Friedrich Merz and Chancellor Olaf Scholz as the real contest for the chancellery. “The Union will not get the chancellery” the SPD official said. The campaign has only just begun, and Miersch believes that Merz’s policies represent the past. The opposition leader, Miersch claimed, is against electric mobility, wind power, and now also criticizes sustainable steel production, thereby unsettling entire industries. “Now the programs are out, and the differences will become clear.
