The Union and the SPD intend to hold talks with the Greens in the near future, potentially to still embed new special funds for defense or infrastructure expenditures in the Basic Law, if the old Bundestag is still in operation. This was stated by the chair of the Greens’ Bundestag faction, Britta Haßelmann, to the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” (Tuesday editions).
“We have only briefly discussed that there will be talks” Haßelmann said to RND. “Nothing has been concretely agreed upon so far.” Haßelmann added: “The Union and SPD seem to be very preoccupied with themselves. Meanwhile, it is clear that for everything that is at stake, broad majorities in the parliament are needed.” In the old Bundestag, the Union, SPD and Greens had still had a two-thirds majority together.
