Green Politician Speaks Out on Frustration Over Merz and Calls for Unity in New Government

Green Party politician Timon Dzienus expressed understanding for frustration over the newly elected Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) among the coalition parties. He revealed in an interview with the news portal “Watson” on Wednesday that he was also surprised that Merz failed in the first ballot. “On the other hand, I can understand that there is frustration within the coalition parties. Merz has been like a loose axe in the woods over the past years and is now surprised that the tree falls” explained Dzienus.

According to Dzienus, Chancellorship means more than just being the chairman of the CDU. “A Chancellor must unite instead of dividing” he said. “Whether Friedrich Merz can do that remains to be seen.”

Dzienus criticized that young people are not adequately considered in the coalition agreement. “The motto of the new government seems to be: unambitious and future-proof” he said. “The new black-red coalition has nothing to offer young people.”

This includes affordable housing and climate protection. Additionally, the MP criticizes the new government’s plans for the Bundeswehr. “Many young people are waiting months for a therapy place, but the only new places that will be available will likely be in the barracks.
