Cem Özdemir, the acting Minister of Agriculture and Research, has called for a quick rerun of the failed Chancellor election in the first round. “I hope that this accident can be corrected quickly through a later election and that both the CDU/CSU and the SPD faction can now quickly resolve that their ranks are united” Özdemir said to the “Rheinische Post” (Wednesday edition). He looked towards the AfD faction after the failed first round. “And they are of course delighted” said the Green politician. “Everyone else has no reason to be pleased. Anyone who cares about this country must have an interest in Germany getting a stable government. The fact that this did not happen is not a good sign and is not a good day for Germany” explained the Green politician. That he would continue to act as acting minister for now did not concern him the most, but rather “the image we give both inside and outside the country as a nation” said Özdemir. “This has not happened before in the Bund. It is not good.
