Berlin, Germany – The German Green Party has called on Chancellor Friedrich Merz to provide clarity on the country’s support for Ukraine.
Party co-leader Franziska Brantner expressed her concerns in an interview, stating that the coalition government has been surprisingly indecisive in its support for Ukraine, particularly in regards to the provision of extensive weapon systems. “After making bold announcements, the coalition is remarkably unclear about its support for Ukraine and the public line on far-reaching weapon systems is diffuse” she said.
Brantner also criticized Merz, saying that he appears more like a puppet than a leader. She expects the Chancellor to show leadership at the coalition meeting on Wednesday, where the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is set to visit Berlin for talks, including discussions on the country’s support for Ukraine against Russia.
