Green Gaffe: Habeck's Image Still a Stumble!

While campaigning as the Green Party’s chancellor candidate, Robert Habeck failed to sustainably improve his image. Germans consider the Green politician sympathetic to 54 percent, but only 33 percent competent, as shown by the attribute profile that Forsa conducts for top politicians for the “Stern” at irregular intervals.

The image sharpens in that Habeck gains two percentage points in the sympathy rating compared to the October 2024 survey, but loses three percentage points in competence. Only in one attribute does Habeck achieve a value of more than 50 percent: 53 percent of Germans say he is easy to understand; 38 percent consider him trustworthy; 30 percent believe he knows what moves people, and 26 percent rate him as a strong leader. For comparison, Union chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz was attributed 47 percent competence by 47 percent of Germans, but only 24 percent found him sympathetic.

Among his own supporters, Habeck achieves unusually high values: By all the attributes asked, the economics minister reaches at least 60 percent among Green Party voters; 86 percent of them find him sympathetic. The AfD supporters, on the other hand, are particularly critical of Habeck, with only three percent of them considering him trustworthy.
