The youngest Green Party member in the German Bundestag, Emilia Fester, has expressed her disappointment with the numerous critical comments made by CSU leader Markus Söder against her party.
“Söder has it in for us” the 26-year-old politician, who has been a member of the Bundestag since 2021, told Watson news portal. She attributed the Bavarian Minister-President’s behavior to having “made a fool of himself” over the Greens and expressed concerns about the possibility of a coalition with the Union, particularly with the CSU. Fester feared that the Greens would be “persecuted all the time, like the FDP” in the past.
SPD member Lena Werner also shared her opinion, suggesting that Söder has a dislike for the Greens. Fester then asked, “Why is that the case?” Söder had previously ruled out a coalition between the Union and the Greens after the federal election, labeling the combination as “factually dead” due to differences in migration policies.
The SPD and the Greens are closer than one might think, as Fester and Werner emphasized. They highlighted the importance of the “wall against the right” for both parties. Fester also referred to shared achievements, such as the abolition of the Paragraph 219a advertising ban for abortions and the Self-Determination Act: “We have done good things.” Werner agreed, but also lamented that these successes often take a backseat.
