Green Demands Answers on Border Regime from Dobrindt

The Green Party is demanding answers from Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) on the new border regime. According to “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”, the party will submit 18 questions to Dobrindt on Monday, giving him a week to respond. The questions focus on the criteria for deciding whether to return refugees, the legal basis for such returns, the number and cost of border control facilities and the impact of tighter border controls on cross-border trade. The Green Party also wants to know how vulnerable refugees who are not returned will be treated and whether their asylum applications will be processed in Germany or through the Dublin procedure. The party argues that the new government’s approach is “symbol politics that damages Europe and breaks the law” and that Dobrindt should provide clarity and end the chaos at the borders. The Green Party’s Marcel Emmerich warns that the government’s actions are “Europe-averse, economically damaging and irresponsible towards the staff of the Federal Police and the refugees.” He urges Dobrindt to “finally explain to the public what he is doing, end the chaos and provide clarity. This disastrous mismanagement is a political disaster: Europe-averse, economically damaging and irresponsible towards the staff of the Federal Police and the refugees.
