Green-Black Alliance on Federal Level a 'Dead End'

Thuringia’s Minister-President Mario Voigt (CDU) has spoken out against a coalition between the CDU and the Greens after the 2025 federal election.

“The Greens held a federal party convention in Aschaffenburg during the week of the attack and decided that we need a higher migration quota. That is reality denial” he told the “Tagesspiegel” (Saturday edition). According to current polls, the CDU would only have the Greens, the SPD and the AfD as options for a government after the election.

Voigt’s stance is similar to that of Bavaria’s Minister-President Markus Söder (CSU), who has categorically ruled out a black-green coalition. Voigt said to the newspaper: “We federal states have a similar pulse.” For him, it is primarily important that the CDU becomes strong enough to shape the political agenda in the next coalition formation.
