Government Shake-Up: Who's In, Who's Out in Berlin?

German Government Appoints New Officials in Various Roles

The German federal government has announced the appointment of several officials in key positions, following recommendations from the Health Minister, Nina Warken. Hendrik Streeck, a member of the CDU, will take on the role of the Federal Government’s Commissioner for Addiction and Drug Issues, replacing an existing position. Katrin Staffler, a member of the CSU, will become the Representative of the Federal Government for Care, while Stefan Schwartze, a member of the SPD, will continue to serve as the Federal Government’s Commissioner for Patient Interests.

Christoph Ploß, a member of the CDU and a long-time member of the German Bundestag, has been appointed as the Coordinator of the Federal Government for Maritime Economy and Tourism. Knut Abraham, a member of the CDU and a Bundestag representative from Brandenburg, will take over as the Federal Government’s Commissioner for Poland, succeeding Dietmar Nietan of the SPD.

Gitta Connemann, a member of the CDU and a Parliamentary State Secretary, has been named as the Federal Government’s Commissioner for the Mittelstand, a key sector in the German economy.
