The German federal government’s recent “Open Day” initiative drew approximately 100,000 visitors to the Chancellery and various federal ministries over the weekend, according to a statement released Sunday evening by the Federal Press Office.
The Chancellery proved to be a particularly popular destination, with Chancellor Friedrich Merz engaging directly with citizens and answering their questions. The Federal Press Office highlighted a children’s press conference featuring government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius as a key event.
Over the two-day period, numerous federal ministers – including Dobrindt, Klingbeil, Wadephul, Wildberger, Alabali Radovan, Hubertz, Prien and Hubig, as well as the Head of the Chancellery, Frei – also made themselves available to address public inquiries.
The significant turnout, as noted by the Federal Press Office, demonstrates that dialogue between political leaders and the citizenry remains “more important than ever” amidst current dynamic times. The government expressed gratitude to all attendees for participating in the event.
