In a recent interview with the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”, German Bundestag Vice President Katrin Göring-Eckardt, a member of the Green party, expressed her intention to push for a Bundestag resolution on an AfD ban before the upcoming re-election of the Bundestag. Göring-Eckardt stated that the AfD has increasingly openly incited hatred against people who do not fit into their worldview, and has aggressively attacked the German legal system and the constitution.
As a member of a constitutional organ, she emphasized that she cannot ignore these developments. She added that only the Federal Constitutional Court can determine whether the AfD is unconstitutional. Göring-Eckardt called on the Bundestag to take responsibility for the protection of democracy and pave the way to the Constitutional Court in the upcoming session week.
