Berlin, Germany – The German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) has emphasized the importance of international cooperation for the economic and political future of Germany. According to GIZ’s Chief, Thorsten Schäfer-Gümbel, the organization is committed to sustainable development, peace and security worldwide, including in Germany.
Speaking at the annual press conference in Berlin, Schäfer-Gümbel highlighted the GIZ’s long-standing cooperation with the private sector, stating that together, they drive economic development in partner countries by supporting established markets, unlocking new ones and securing access to resources.
The GIZ will also utilize its expertise and experience to achieve the goals of the new German government, with the agreed-upon priorities serving as a guiding force. Schäfer-Gümbel noted that the organization’s main areas of focus are already in line with these priorities, including security and stabilization, migration and flight, as well as climate protection and energy.
The GIZ is currently working on rebuilding Ukraine, in partnership with the German government, the European Union and other organizations. The organization is supporting the Ukrainian economy by providing a combination of advisory services, vocational training and direct financial support to private companies.
Schäfer-Gümbel emphasized the significance of international cooperation in crisis regions, stating that stability ultimately leads to security and peace, even in Germany. He appealed for more international cooperation, rather than less, to achieve these goals.
