Borussia Mönchengladbach has announced the immediate departure of head coach Gerardo Seoane. The Bundesliga club confirmed the decision on Monday, citing a lack of progress and a need for change within the team.
Seoane, who took charge at the beginning of the 2023/24 season, leaves the club after a challenging period. The club’s sporting director, Roland Virkus, explained that after careful evaluation of the team’s performance, the decision was made to pursue a different direction. He emphasized a lack of confidence that a turnaround could be achieved under the current leadership, particularly given ten Bundesliga games without a victory.
Club president Rainer Bonhof acknowledged Seoane’s efforts, noting he inherited a difficult situation and contributed to the team’s development and stabilization. However, he stated that the recent conclusion of last season and the start of the current campaign fell short of expectations.
Mönchengladbach currently occupies the third-to-last position in the Bundesliga standings after three matchdays, having yet to score a goal. Their most recent fixture saw a decisive 0-4 defeat against Werder Bremen at home. U23 coach Eugen Polanski will assume interim leadership of the team until a permanent replacement is found.
