The number of unemployed people in Germany has risen by 182,000 to 2.932 million in April compared to the previous year, according to the Federal Employment Agency (BA) on Wednesday. The figures decreased by 36,000 compared to the previous month. The unemployment rate is now at 6.3%, 0.1 percentage points lower than the previous month but 0.3 percentage points higher than the previous year. “The spring recovery is also weak in April” said BA chief Andrea Nahles when presenting the figures. “Unemployment and underemployment are decreasing, but the figures only change slightly when seasonally adjusted.” The demand for labor is also decreasing, with 646,000 job postings at the BA, 55,000 fewer than the previous year.
